December: the magic of light, come to Verona and meet our Santa.

December 13th is a special day in Verona, it means to all locals the celebration of Santa Lucia (Saint Lucy), one of the most beloved traditions. Lucia, from latin "lux" means bearer of light, as a symbol of hope and faith.

According to legend, Saint Lucy makes her way during the night between December 12th and 13th, accompanied by her faithful donkey, to bring gifts and sweets to all the good children. The unmissable treat on Saint Lucy's Day are "Puoti" (also known as Santa Lucia shortbread cookies), which are shortcrust biscuits often shaped like little men or dolls, on sale in all pastry and bakery shops in town.

On Saint Lucy's day the city of Verona gets adorned with sparkling lights.

The centre of the celebration is Bra' Square, where the traditional "Santa Lucia" market takes place : colorful stalls offer toys, Christmas decorations, nougat and local delicacies.

The Christmas Star, the scent of cinnamon and mulled wine make the Bra' square the place where local traditions merges with history. Immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the city at the sunset, when the lights are turned on, visit the traditional market, stroll along via Mazzini, admire the central Erbe Square. If it is too chilly, sip a cup of hot chocolate and taste the delicious Santa Lucia frolline, handmade  shortbread biscuits.

Visit Verona in December, a perfect opportunity to discover the city from a unique perspective, surrounded by the warmth and the joyful spirit of this festive season.
